Stella, age 2:    "I laughed, I cried, I peed my pants."

My Story:
The idea for this project was born at the time my daughter Stella was 21 months old and I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Cancer turned my world upside-down as well as inspired me to launch this dual-purpose mission, one that, at such an early stage, has already  brought me great joy and a sense of purpose.  I turned to the sewing machine for comfort and have become a wild sewing-mama ever since!  As part of deepening my commitment to live more green,  SmartyPants and my love of sewing are traveling down a unique path, one even richer in color and texture than I previously imagined.  My goal is to succeed at operating a local endeavor that is steadfast in it's social and environmental initiatives while having fun!

a few of my future goals and way-out dreams for smartypants:

-search for a source of new fabric that is truly sustainable (like organic bamboo but grown in the pioneer valley, hmm?)

-convert our equipment over to wind-up sewing machines & sergers, (that is, if super modern wind-up technology ever makes its way into the garment industry.)

-on our super sunny property we will build a green sewing studio and warehouse.

-purchase a bio-diesel vehicle for collection of fabric and delivery of orders.

 AND THE WINNER IS....

CHRIS FROM NORTHAMPTON!  She has won the smartypants raffle! Congratulations to Chris and thank you to everyone for all your kindness and generosity!  Smartypants raised over $400 for Rays of Hope!

fabric donations tidbits:

We've received our FIRST EVER donation of fabrics!  My wonderful Aunt Gerri from Burlington, CT went through her closets and found some great old cotton dresses she used to wear in High School.  Love the prints!!!  Thank You.

    We've received our second donation...

Although they didn't have a story to share, their donation has given us a little story to tell.  My mother's employer, River Ridge at Avon, an assisted living facility in Avon, CT has rummaged through their supplies and found pieces of fabric to donate.  The smaller pieces will make perfect "butt patches"!

We are thrilled, Thank you River Ridge!

We've received our third donation...  Scotti from Connecticut heard about this project at the Rays of Hope A Walk Toward The Cure Of Breast Cancer. Scotti donated 2 huge bags of a beautiful variety of vintage cotton fabric.  We are jumping for joy at the bounty!  Thank you Scotti.

Our fourth donation has arrived...and it's the MOTHER LOAD!  Four HUGE boxes of buttery soft cotton knits!  This fabric is perfect for pants for the little ones, 3 months to 18 months!  Thank you to Jesse at Guran Inc!

another donation arrived
